Jackie, Tim, Nona, Eric, Patrick and I followed Ben and The Big P.A. around Brooklyn and Queens on a route they designed to take us to
Coney Island and Breezy Point. We stopped at
Astro Land for a ride on the world famous
Cyclone. Built in 1927, it is the world's most famous roller coaster. After a very bumpy ride we stuffed out faces full of treats from the original
Nathan's Famous. Nathan's is the home of "
Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest." With that kind of legacy, how can you not stop in for a hot dog?? We briefly ran into Evelyn and Adam there before getting back on the bikes.
From there we rode to Breezy Point which is a gated beach community located at the far end of Queens. Once we got into Breezy we stopped at the Sugar Bowl for a much needed cold beer. We then excited Breezy and rode into the Rockaways. At that point, several of us realized we would be late for our 7 pm Tots! party and decided to hop the A train. The others decided to cross the bay bridge and then get the A train from Howard Beach. As it turned out, the bridge was closed and we all ended up on the same train back to NYC.
It might've been a really hot and humid, New York day but it was a fantastic 30 mile ride.
